I'm now interested in this book and I can't wait to see more, specially of John and the other Queen guys! Sure the editor had lots of issues with the delays, it's fair to call them out, but dunking on the art for simple ignorance is just sad. It's hard to make comics and to draw people in different styles and with not many references, and such a simple style is fitting with the situation even if it's not realistic or perfect, it's like looking through a kid's eyes. I've seen lots of complaints about the style being too cartoony or that the kid doesn't look like Freddie enough (which is not true to me, I believe he does look similar), but I would recommend looking past the "missing" realism and focus on the storytelling and emotions. The artist chosen has a simple and almost naive/childish style which I think it's perfect to recall a memory of Freddie's childhood in India. The first chapter is a glimpse into Freddie's childhood, filled with music and athletics. Below is a link to a digital version of the first chapter of the book. We know these ongoing delays have been extremely frustrating but want you to see what a fantastic book it is. "The books are finishing up with our printer and are expected to begin shipping to fans at the end of November and arrive in plenty of time for the holidays. The book changed title in "Freddie Mercury: Shadows Illuminated" and features various artists: Kyla Aiko, Robin Richardson, Safiya Zerrougui, Tammy Wang, and Ames Liu. For all who were interested, there's news and a PREVIEW of the Graphic Novel (comic) about Freddie published by Z2 comics and while I used to not be really interested in it, the preview sparked some interest and thought you'd like it as well.
